Benefits:
- Balanced Competition: Dividing teams by skill level ensures that matches are fairer, making games more enjoyable for all participants.
- Shorter Seasons: With fewer teams per division, the season can be completed faster, leaving room for other events or additional tournaments.
- Motivation for Teams: Ascension and descension provide incentives for teams to improve and strive for better results.
- Structured Entry for New Teams: Placing new teams in the 3rd division gives them a chance to gauge their skill level without overwhelming them.
Suggested Implementation:
Divisional Setup:
- Division 1: Top 8 teams (most skilled).
- Division 2: Middle 8 teams (moderately skilled).
- Division 3: Bottom 8 teams (newcomers and less experienced).
Promotion and Relegation Rules:
- At the end of each season, the top 2 teams from Divisions 2 and 3 ascend to the next higher division.
- Similarly, the bottom 2 teams from Divisions 1 and 2 descend to the lower division.
Handling New Teams:
- Any new team joining the league starts in Division 3 and works its way up over subsequent seasons.
Season Length and Schedule:
- With 8 teams per division, each team could play 14 matches (home and away).
- This keeps the season manageable while allowing plenty of games.
This proposal could certainly go some way to addressing the crazy situation we currently endure. There is currently little or no enjoyment being flogged by the very talented teams who really have very little test of their skills.
Worth a try because what we have is not much fun some weeks
