Proposal to Standardise Pool Rules

As our league continues to grow with an influx of new players, teams, and innovative ideas, I propose that we adopt international pool rules instead of the current, improvised regulations. This change will not only enhance the playing experience but also streamline the learning process for newcomers.

Benefits of Adopting International Playing Rules

1. Enhanced Enjoyment: International rules promote fast-paced play and encourage aggressive shot-making, making the game more exciting for both players and spectators.  Fast games are good for everyone ( including bar owners)

2. Consistency and Clarity: These rules are well-defined and universally recognised, ensuring that all players have a clear understanding of the game, which minimises confusion and disputes.

3. Ease of Learning for New Players: By adopting standardised rules, new players will not have to navigate a different set of regulations, making it easier for them to join and enjoy the game. This is beneficial for the bars as it can attract more customers.

Main Rule Changes

1. Color Assignment: The colors of the balls (stripes or solids) will be determined by the first legal shot made after the break.

2. Calling Shots: Players must call non-obvious pockets for their shots; flukes will not be counted.

3. Cushion Contact Requirement: Players are required to either make contact with a cushion or pot a ball after every shot, ensuring continuous play.

4. Slops Allowed: Pocketing an opponent's ball will not be considered a foul, allowing for more dynamic game play.

5. Standard Fouls: With "ball in hand" you are still required to execute a standard shot.  No special powers.

As evidenced by players in Bangkok, Jomtien, Hua Hin, and the Thai National league, transitioning to these international rules is not only feasible but also beneficial. The notion that our league's players are too old or not skilled enough to make the change is misguided and an insult to our players. Embracing these changes will enhance the overall experience for players and spectators alike, fostering a more vibrant and competitive league.

I urge the league to consider this proposal for the betterment of our community.

Thank you for your consideration.

If it ain't broken why invent the wheel again. Mabprachan rules have been working for a long time with no problems. Change a couple of rules such as late comers to a game 30 minute lee way

Hi Dave, Thank for your input.
IMHO we should never have invented the wheel in the first place. Change is difficult but the league's made up rules regarding fouls and our handling of snookers highly problematic for any newcomer.
The late comers rule is a proposal.

For the many current players who are not interested in this proposal could Administrator, perhaps, post a set of the rules he/ she wishes have implemented. That would enable all the players to consider the changes without the Administrator‘s personal opinion and perceived benefits.

The complete World Pool Association pool rules can be found under the Pool Rules menu tab. Go to the link at the bottom of the page. Note that we are interested in 8 ball. Pages 18-22.
